David Itzkovits

David Itzkovits


David Itzkovits is the CEO of Sanlam Global Investment Solutions (SGIS), a division of Sanlam, a 100-year-old financial institution with global reach.

David has 20 years of experience in the financial services industry and has worked in various positions with top international companies including an entrepreneurial start-up which was acquired by a $100 billion global investment firm. Prior to this, David worked for the offshore arm of Old Mutual as Regional Director in Europe and Canada, where he was responsible for all business developments. Before that, he was Vice President at HSBC Private Bank in New York where he co-managed a $635 million portfolio of investment, credit and insurance for high net worth clients.

David is an acknowledged thought leader in the use of Artificial Intelligence (Ai) in the investments industry and is an international keynote speaker on the subject. He has been instrumental in driving the use of Ai in investment management, especially within the Sanlam Group, which also offers a UCITS fund utilising Ai in the decision-making process.

David is a CFA charterholder, has a Bachelor of Science from McGill University and has an MBA from Ivey Business School at Western University.

Gideon Nell

Gideon Nell


Gideon joined Sanlam in June 2014 to manage business development of the international investment businesses. His primary role is Global Head of Business Development of Sanlam Global Investment Solutions with additional responsibility of establishing an institutional business.

Prior to joining Sanlam, Gideon spent five years as a partner at Armstrong Investment Managers LLP, focussing on research, corporate strategy and business development. He previously worked at Insight Investment as Director - European offshore centres. Before moving to Europe in 2002, Gideon was a private client portfolio manager at PPM Stockbrokers and Appleton Partners in South Africa.

Gideon did an IMM at the Global School of Business in South Africa, has an International Capital Markets Certificate with the Securities Institute (UK), has an FPC from the Chartered Insurance Institute (UK) and an IMC from the CFA Society of the UK.

Dennis Burger

Dennis Burger


Dennis has 34 years of financial industry experience. His global distribution experience includes the UK, Europe, Asia, Middle East, Africa, Latin America and the USA.

He has held various executive positions and worked for international companies including: Old Mutual International (London and Guernsey), TriAlpha, Castlestone Management, Nedbank Private, Old Mutual Bermuda and Alexander Forbes.

Dennis graduated with a BA and BA Honours Degree (Industrial Psychology) from the University of Johannesburg and has a Certified Financial Planning Certificate (CFP - UK).

Dennis is married with two children and enjoys golf, reading and watching sport.

Johan Gerber

Johan Gerber


Johan joined SGIS in August 2018. He is currently an executive committee member of Sanlam Global Investment Solutions (SGIS). As Head of Finance, he is responsible for managing the financial aspects of SGIS’ business.

Johan has several years’ international experience in the insurance, investment and financial services industries. Prior to joining Sanlam, he spent five years in his own start-up business in the building industry. He also spent seven years in Bermuda working at Deloitte and Scottish Re.

Johan completed his tertiary education at UNISA, completed his articles with the Auditor-General of South Africa and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2006. He is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Gavin Meiring

Gavin Meiring


Gavin joined Sanlam Global Investment Solutions (SGIS) in July 2018 to head up business development in South Africa and to formulate the messaging of Sanlam’s artificial intelligence investment management capability.

He has a strong Financial Services and offshore banking background, having worked with international brands, including: Standard Bank, Old Mutual International and the Virgin Group.

He has a particular interest in the use of technology and how it can be leveraged to drive business growth.

Gavin obtained his Master of Business Administration through the Australian Institute of Business and is currently pursuing his PhD in Corporate Governance.

Mark Kaplan

Mark Kaplan


Mark has been primarily involved in the global distribution and marketing of international financial service products for the past 15 years in the Americas, Middle East, Asia and Africa. He has been Head of Sales and Marketing with numerous companies and was a former ATP tennis professional ranked #117 in the world. He resides in Stamford, CT with his wife and three children.

Jorge Gutierrez

Jorge Gutierrez


Jorge has over 20 years of investment sales experience in retail and wholesale US offshore and Latin American markets. He served as Head of Offshore Distribution for a US asset manager for about for 10 years. He also worked for a UK private banking institution serving HNW Latin American clients from Argentina and Chile. Jorge resides in Miami, Florida with his wife, Rebecca and two children. In his spare time, Jorge enjoys travelling with his family to see their son compete at regional and national optimist sailing regattas.

Giles Boeree

Giles Boeree


Giles is a financial services executive with 30 years of broad experience in building multi-channel distribution for life companies, funds houses and alternative asset managers in Europe, the Middle East and for the last 18 years in the Far East.

Based in Hong Kong, Giles is responsible for business development in the Far East.

Ayanda Khoza

Ayanda Khoza


Ayanda joined the SGIS team early in 2018 and she works in the investments division. Ayanda has six years’ experience in wealth and portfolio management within the financial services industry; she held some junior roles for the past six years in which she was primarily responsible for clients’ wealth services.

Prior to joining Sanlam, Ayanda started her career within the financial services industry with one of the big banks in South Africa.

Ayanda has an undergraduate BCom Degree in Economics and Econometrics from the University of Johannesburg and a Postgraduate Degree in Economics from the University of South Africa.

Vestal De Waal

Vestal De Waal


Vestal is the executive assistant to the CEO.

She has over 20 years’ experience in various administrative and coordinating roles. Vestal graduated from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology with a Diploma in Office Administration.

She lives in Cape Town with her husband and fur child.

Lizelle Solomons

Lizelle Solomons


Lizelle joined Sanlam Global Investment Solutions (SGIS) in September 2018, and her key responsibility is to manage the operational aspects of SGIS’s business.

She is a client services specialist with over 12 years’ experience in the financial industry. Since joining the Sanlam Group in 2007, Lizelle held numerous client relations and communications positions giving her unique insights into the business, and gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience. Over the years, she received a number of accolades for innovation and client experience, and most recently she was awarded with the CEO award for being Performance Driven. Lizelle is currently completing her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Science.

Bronwyn Kasner

Bronwyn Kasner


Bronwyn joined SGIS in April 2019 and is currently the compliance officer for Sanlam Global Investment Solutions.

Bronwyn has several years’ experience in the SA financial services environment. He started as a claims administrator for a company called 10X Investments before moving to Glacier by Sanlam where he worked in the Operations and Communication Centre teams, gaining both servicing and compliance experience until August 2017. His most recent role was Compliance Analyst for Sygnia Asset Management in Cape Town.

Bronwyn has a National Diploma in Internal Auditing, a Certificate in Compliance Management and is currently in his final year completing his Law Degree through the University of South Africa. Bronwyn is also a member of the Compliance Institute of South Africa.

Zonia Payne

Zonia Payne


Zonia joined SGIS in April 2019 as an operations specialist specialising in the SGIS finance tasks.

Previously Zonia was with State Street Corporation for seven years. While at State Street Corporation, she held a number of roles including Trade Processor, Pension Fund Accountant, Fund Set Up Processor and Client Service Representative, where she looked after seven institutional clients.

Zonia held the position of Head Girl at her Cape Town based school and holds a BCom Undergrad Degree and a BCom (Honours) in Finance and Investments from the University of the Western Cape.

Sanlam Global Investment Solutions selected Bermuda as the international jurisdiction for its investment solution – the Sanlam Global Investment Plan.

SGIS uses Sanlam Asset Management (Ireland) Limited (“SAMI”) – established in June 1997 in Dublin, Ireland. SAMI is the Sanlam Group’s international investment management platform managing funds domiciled in Ireland.

With a highly experienced team of professionals, SAMI provides fund management and establishment services to collective investment schemes, supporting a range of international investment solutions across countries and asset classes.
