The Click Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in South Africa that promotes the use of technology in education to benefit the country’s foundation-phase (Grade R to 3) learners. Sanlam actively supports the Click Foundation’s belief that technology – when used appropriately – can transform education in an efficient, cost-effective and scalable manner.
Through this partnership, the Sanlam Foundation is supporting the Click Foundation’s mission to address the literacy challenges that South Africa faces, while providing young learners with valuable technological skills that will hopefully help to create further opportunities for them in the future.
“The Foundation’s primary focus is to implement online English literacy programmes in underprivileged primary schools countrywide,” explains Paula Barnard, Acting Head of the Sanlam Foundation.
“This allows young learners to work at their own pace through fun activities driven by technology, supporting the Department of Basic Education’s policy goal of all children learning to read fluently, and with comprehension, by the end of Grade 3.”
Through its partnership with the Click Foundation, Sanlam is able to expand its Blue Ladder Schools Programme reach into Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape.
In addition to this, the Sanlam Foundation supports a range of other education-focused initiatives. These include a partnership with another non-profit organisation – the Primary Science Programme (PSP) – which focuses on raising the standard of maths education in South Africa’s under-resourced schools. Through this initiative, PSP has deployed a series of support programmes for maths teachers at some of the Blue Ladder Schools Programme’s beneficiary schools.
