The three-day race, which took place from 9 – 11 August in the Tsitsikamma region, again provided something for the whole family. The start of the race co-incided with Women’s Day, giving organisers the opportunity to spoil the wives, mothers, girlfriends and daughters who stayed for the week-end. Entertainment activities for the children were on offer for the duration of the three days.
An exciting addition this year was the introduction of a 10km race exclusively for the supporters and children of the riders.
Prizes were awarded in the categories of solo mens’, solo ladies’ and mixed teams. But, above all, the week-end was about having fun, relaxing, making new friends and enjoying the spectacular scenery. Many of the riders included Sanlam and Glacier by Sanlam staff, as well as our business partners and financial intermediaries.
The broader community has always played a key role in the success of the Storms River Traverse and this year was no exception. Together with the event organisers, the Tsitsikamma Village Inn identified various areas in the community that needed attention to alleviate unemployment and other social issues. The Glacier by Sanlam Storms River Traverse employed all marshals and other officials directly from the informal community in the area as well as additional staff who were employed by the hotel and other establishments.
“The Storms River Traverse has helped entrench our brand in our niche market,” says Glacier head of marketing, Donna Barnes, “and has equally contributed to the broader community in the area, which is at the heart of who we are as a brand, making a difference where we can. In addition, the family aspect of the race was also an important consideration for us.”
